Build a more fulfilling career with your Master of Social Work (MSW) from Daemen University. Whether you already have a background in the field or you’re looking to make a career change, our child and family-focused graduate social work degree will deepen your knowledge of ethics, research, diversity, and policy. You can complete the Master of Social Work online or on campus.
Daemen’s MSW will prepare you to work with a variety of individuals, groups, and systems to impact social change. You’ll learn from experienced faculty who are active social workers in their communities and will support you throughout the program. Whether you choose to study online or on our beautiful campus in Amherst, New York, you’ll complete field education experiences under licensed social work professionals. We’ll set you up for success from the beginning, with licensure preparation built into the curriculum to assist you in successfully passing the Association of Social Work Boards licensure examinations.
Well-qualified students with a BSW may enroll in our full-time, one-year Advanced Standing curriculum. Students with varying degrees are further supported with our full-time, two-year MSW program. Both curriculums have a child and family focus and are offered on campus and online.
On-campus format: Students in the two-year program spend year one developing generalist social work practice skills while completing a one-year, 450-hour generalist internship under the direction of a licensed social work professional. Year two is the advanced clinical year. Students in the Advanced Standing Program complete only the advanced clinical year.
Online format: Whether enrolled in the full program or the Advanced Standing Program, students will take two online courses at a time in eight-week segments. While the majority of the classwork will be done independently, there will be some live, one-on-one engagements where students and faculty meet together. Students also gain practical experience by applying their skills under the direction of a licensed social work professional at field placement sites within their community (about 18–20 hours per week).
